OLD NEWS FOR THE MUTILATOR (for people who forgot)

There have been some 2ND hand statements and slanderous lies posted on few message boards regarding CODE RED and the motion picture THE MUTILATOR. Here is the truth once again to set the records straight.

(1) CODE RED has a valid contract with Buddy Cooper on the film.

(2) Mr. Cooper told us that he had the negative and prints in New York, but later we realized that the place was gone. Buddy used his assistant to search for it, only to come up empty handed.

(3) Buddy did find a 3/4 inch tape (I recall the R cut), but this is unusable for today's standards for a DVD release. 3/4 will look worse than your old VHS Vestron Tape and most likely will not play since it has had a 15 year lifespan.

(4) A youtube video poped up with Buddy showing a storage shack with some 35mm cans in the background. I talked to Buddy and he told me it was empty. He did find some trims and some trailers which we sent to a Los Angeles lab (the one Something Weird used). The 35mm trailer was damaged due to poor storage/weather conditions after 25 years. If there had been a 35mm print inside, it would most likely also be damaged/beyond repair.

(5) Rumor circled around that Movielab New York had the negatives. Cliff MacMillan of BCI personally asked Mike Vraney of Something Weird and he didn't have it. It was not at Movielab. Since then, many print collectors and film storage people were contacted. Nothing.

We can't understand why so many people spew slanderous lies about us regarding this film. We have mentioned these facts countless times, but it seems we might have to put this bulletin out once a year. If Buddy has a 35mm usable print, he never told us or delivered it to us. This is the 2011 bulletin. Come back next year to probably see the same bulletin all over again. This is what we have on the table, nothing else.

So no Mutiliator DVD with a Buddy Cooper commentary? Damn. I think they should just use the existing source footage of the UK Vipco DVD release and intercut scenes that are not in the Vipco version. I mean MGM did it with the 'From Beyond (1986)' DvD release and it looked superb.

Plus additional features such a short doco on the film's production, retrospective interviews and 2 commentaries (1 with buddy on his own, 1 with with Buddy and cast/crew) would be more than sufficient for me to buy the DVD.

Thank you for setting the record straight. I have been very curious about this particular title. Another one of my favorite films. Hopefully those negatives will resurface one day.

So why wont you set the record straight on Scavolini's Nightmare then???

Here's hoping for more board & forum comments that upset you - hopefully then you'll get your finger out and tell us all the honest truth about that instead of ignoring all of us that want this DVD.

I thought he said July its even on his website. Oh wait another ignorant Nightmare fan crying! I see how much trouble it his to make a DVD company its been a Nightmare. Thanks code Red just remember when Nightmare finally comes out they will just cry also about the print because a movie made in 1981 should look like Aviator 2009. Nightmare fans are the worst I have never seen the movie but damn if it creates this many annoying fans it must be bad I will buy the DVD thats coming in JULY!!!!!!

the person bitching about rituals is chrismac87 who posts at horrordvds forums. He has a grudge with codered since codered couldnt get the rights for the video dead..
As for rituals it is a great release and great transfer

Colt they are fan of nothing... They are for the majority a group of troll with no life and it's their fun to annoy people (for those of them who don't work for other labels of course). When Nightmare will be release in july they won't buy it since they aren't fans and they will start whining for something else.

I'm sure you have already seen too how they try to bring their non-sense to every forums they can. Sometimes it works and they ruined the credibility of an entire place and sometimes they fail because some members are there to call them on their bullshit.

Too bad it isn't my blog since every retarted comment don't pass moderation on mine. It isn't even a question of free speech (anyway it doesn't apply on a forum or a blog), but a question of making the blog an agreable one to read for the visitor.

For the record I love code Red, I hope you guys aren't closing as was rumored last year. I almost relapsed, (Joke)-(but I was pretty dismal). You guys have brought out more worthwhile films than anybody! Not to say I don't support other company's but Code Red are excellent! Rituals looked amazing! Well worth the wait! Nightmare will be well worth the wait as well. also note to fanboys, personally i'd rather have waited on Nightmare this long as it's the last of the truly "Goreific" flicks from the golden era to yet be released uncut. Personally I like having something so great to look forward to! Thank you Code Red your company's done wonders duringmy rehabilitation over the last couple years. They always warn about the boredom while piecing your life back together but you guys have always made sure i had sdomething to enjoy & to look forward to. Words can't express my gratitude!

Just FYI, MGM owns the rights to The Video Dead. It would have been expensive to acquire rights from MGM for Code Red. MGM is fully capable of putting out The Video Dead to DVD if they had wanted to. However, it is on PPV across the USA and you can watch it on Netflix. So don't be holding grudges against Code Red cause of something beyond their control.

Sorry you're having such a difficult time with this title! :(

Thanks for all of your work! I buy most CR releases! Some I bought doubles of, too! haha

I really hope you will be able to find a way to restore SCREAMS OF A WINTER NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my all time favorites! I know where two of the actors are, too and am sure they'd love to be interviewed!

Pre-orders for Nightmare are up at www.diabolikdvd.com - it's where I get most of my Code Red DVDs and I highly recommend them. As for Rituals - the wait was totally worth it! Keep up the great work. Sorry to hear about the Mutilator, but as far as these complaints go on other forums, I wouldn't even bother. I used to reply back with " if you think you can do better, then why don't you give it a try yourself. If you looked into the amount of money it takes and how hard it is to find a decent print.." well you get the idea. It's a labor of love to get a lot of these cult titles even out there and it's one of the reasons I will continue to support by buying them.
