MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CODE RED DVD

I would like to thank all the supporters who have purchased and collected our titles in 2009. In this time of recession and economic crisis, I understand how hard it can be financially to buy every DVD that you may find of interest. I hope that 2010 brings prosperity for all of us! For everyone, the Code Red fans and the Code Red complainers, who have emailed the company and did not get a response, I would like to apologize. It's just very tough and time-consuming running things all by myself and this is a one-man operation. I do try to read all of your emails (except for the one nut who continually sends me death threats ), but I can't personally respond to every email so please don't take it personally. I do appreciate all the youtube videos and even a facebook fan-page created by a supporter who took the time and energy to do it. I wasn't even aware of this until recently and it's terrific. All of you guys are the best! Please check this blog from time to time to see updates for our future titles as we have many coming in the new year. Comedies, madmen, zombies, and action films from the glorious cult & exploitation past, and even some of those 'much-demanded' titles that fans have been waiting so patiently for, will finally be unleashed to fill up your collections if you are so inclined. We will still continue our west coast theatrical 35mm screenings in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Texas so keep an eye out for our titles on the big screen. We have also co-produced two new films, so we continue to move forward and never look back. So I would just like to thank all the fans from the bottom of my heart for really making this company work, and I wish you all a happy holiday and a fabulous New Year!

THE VISITOR update! "BEAT THE GEEKS" host Marc Edward Heuck gets Joanne Nail for a commentary!

An overdue update on our upcoming DVD release of THE VISITOR! Star Joanne Nail dropped by recently to give us an audio commentary with moderator Marc Edward Heuck. Joanne had already granted us an audio commentary a while back with Scott Spiegel, but unfortunately we had to scrap that one due to technical issues. However, Joanne was so kind to do it all over again, this time with Marc! With this in the can, and all the other extras completed, THE VISITOR will be out before the summer. Sorry for the long delay on this release, but it's definitely coming soon so please be patient just a little bit longer!

Jimmy McNichol FINALLY gives Code Red an interview and commentary!

An overdue update on our upcoming DVD release of BUTCHER BAKER, NIGHTMARE MAKER! Jimmy McNichol dropped by to give us an audio commentary and also an on-camera interview. Jimmy talked about his memories of the shoot, what he is doing now, and his possible comeback in the music scene. Our brand new HD transfer of the film was done from the original camera negatives. We chose the camera negatives since the two IPs we had both had scratch/line on all the reels. The transfer looks great and the extras are done. Sorry for the delay on this release, but it's definitely coming soon so please be patient just a little bit longer!

LAWRENCE DANE and ROBIN GAMMELL drop by for some RITUALS.

Actor/producer Lawrence Dane and actor Robin Gammell both gave us a fun interview for our upcoming DVD release of RITUALS. Lawrence was happy to give us an audio commentary wherein he told some insightful stories about the film. One interesting comment that Lawrence contributed was about why the ending is so poor looking on all prints of the film (it was incorrectly done by the lab at the time and that's all that exists of that footage). Lawrence also talked about his other filmwork and what he is doing today. Robin, on the other hand, is actually getting married soon and is about to now go through some of those type of 'rituals'! RITUALS is coming soon, uncut and in the best possible presentation from the producer's private print. Don't lose your head over it.

ORIGINAL MOLD OF THE STRANGENESS MONSTER DISCOVERED AFTER 29 YEARS!

The DVD of THE STRANGENESS is now available everywhere for all to enjoy, but little did anyone expect the original monster would resurface after so many years! Deep in the bowels of a forgotten garage in Burbank only a couple of months ago, the original plaster mold of the creature was unearthed by the director. Restoration work on the creature has been done by the original sculptor and co-filmmaker Mark Sawicki. Sawicki has since recast the creature and painted it using the original decaying model as reference. Negotiations are underway with Offloadstudios.com to scan the resurrected creature and offer limited edition full color figures for the collector market. The sudden resurgence of interest in the Strangeness along with Sawicki's current books on effects and animation has led to Mark being asked to perform as an actor in independent features again. His most recent role was the villainous mad clone in Kevin Kutchaver's "Rescue Rocket X5" Also in development is the comedy "House O' Blood" from sheerforceofwill.com Interested parties can contact Mark's rep Vladek Savitskus through the filmingthefantastic.com web site.

Gary Kent's book SHADOWS & LIGHT out now!

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Gary Kent releases exciting autobiographical account of the evolution of indie film in Shadows & Light: Journeys with Outlaws in Revolutionary Hollywood.

AUSTIN, TX – Writer/director, actor, stuntman legend, special effects guru, and production manager Gary Kent announces the release of his autobiographical account of the evolution of independent film, Shadows & Light: Journeys with Outlaws in Revolutionary Hollywood (Dalton Publishing, 2009).

Shadows & Light: Journeys With Outlaws in Revolutionary Hollywood illuminates the “reel” revolution that started in 1960 with the work of Director John Cassavetes. Gary was an officer in this revolution, compiling credits on over one hundred motion pictures and winning several major film awards. Shadows & Light is Gary Kent’s homage to the artistic, talented makers of magic, who began on the bottom of the dog-pile, and today, find themselves on top of the Hollywood heap. The book is filled with memories, reminiscences, inside information, heretofore unknown facts, anecdotes, pictures, etc. accumulated over forty-some years in independent, outrageous, and courageous cinema.

Shadows & Light features stories of Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, James Caan, William Shatner, Ann Margret, Penny Marshall, Sonny Barger and many more.

What the World of Film is Saying About Shadows & Light:

“Tripping from the psychedelic 60s to the filmmaker-centric new century, Gary Kent weaves an expertly written and all-true story of the world of movies, with all of the action, actresses, drink, drugs, sex, and creative genius!”
— Don Coscarelli, Producer Director (Bubba Ho-Tep, Phantasm)

“This book is a magic piece of candy, transporting the reader back to earlier days of celluloid Villians and Heroes, where hindsight is 20/20 and artistic license will get you into any game in town.”
— Chuck Bail, iconic actor/director/stuntman, Stuntman’s Hall of Fame

“Magnificent prose that honors an exciting, turbulent time in the art of movie making magic.”
— Paul Lewis, Producer/Production Manager (Easy Rider, Colors)

“Gary Kent gives us an all access backstage pass to the days when filmmaking was poetry, when guys like Jack Nicholson and Warren Oates were working out of offices the size of closets, and craft service was a bologna sandwich. Kent’s memories are intimate and evocative, sliding through your consciousness like a fine wine, leaving the taste of a touching time when movies were really movies-a time in our culture that is missed now more than ever.”
— Esai Morales, award-winning actor (La Bamba, NYPD Blue), Screen Actor’s Guild Board of Directors, Co-founder of National Hispanic Foundation for The Arts

“Gary Kent has either an extraordinary memory or an extraordinary imagination. His experiences on my movies in the 1960s explore a parallel universe of which I was unaware, but, because of his detailed recreation, I accept as accurate and true. It’s a fascinating trip, and a riveting read.”
— Monte Hellman, director and producer (Ride The Whirlwind, The Shooting, Two Lane Blacktop, Reservoir Dogs)

“Gary’s odyssey takes him into the world of A-List Hollywood, Poverty Row impresarios, mad geniuses, doomed starlets and, maybe most compellingly, among the stuntmen, bit-players, horse wranglers, and grips who labor behind the scenes but are no less fascinating than the baby faces who get the big closeups. What a canvas! What a life! What a book!”
— Lars Nilsen, Alamo Drafthouse

“Gary Kent chronicles the subtle birth and growth of a dazzling cinematic style, born from the evolving mindset of its audience. It’s a world I know and Gary got it right! He turns the trick without breaking a sweat, easy reading, like breathing fresh air, yet loaded with brilliant metaphors and insights that make this book meaningful. Very stylish work.”
— Richard Rush, director

“Kent had the acting chops to star in films, the backbone to make a living as a stuntman, and the determination to learn every job on a film set. He and his fellow movie mavericks embarrassed the major studio system by blind siding it with their creativity and originality. Their work can never be marginalized and may never be repeated. Thanks to the revolutionary work they left behind, it will also never be forgotten.”
— Ken Kish, Producer and Owner, Cinema Wasteland Movie Exposition, Cleveland, Ohio

New street dates for CHOKE CANYON and DRIBBLER - plus MESSIAH OF EVIL for September

CHOKE CANYON will now street on 9/1, and NIGHT OF THE DRIBBLER will now be out on 9/8. September will also see our much-anticipated release of MESSIAH OF EVIL: THE SECOND COMING which will street on 9/22. We hope you support us and buy these rare gems! Thanks!

RIP Fred Travalena

One of TV's most recognizable impressionists and entertainers, nicknamed "The Man of a Thousand Faces", has died. Fred Travalena was only 66. CODE RED worked with Fred in late January of 2009 on the NIGHT OF THE DRIBBLER commentary. When we first called Fred, he was very excited that someone had actually seen the film, which has never been released and was his only lead performance in a motion picture. He gratefully showed up to participate in the commentary track and was in full-on 100% comedy mode. Fred gave us a superbly hilarious and unique commentary for the film as he sat down with lively moderators Marc Edward Heuck and EVIL DEAD writer Scott Spiegel. Fred had a lot of fun doing the commentary and we all enjoyed his jokes and impressions. It will be a memory we'll cherish for the rest of our lives. Our condolences go out to his wife and his children. Thanks for everything, Fred!

THE STRANGENESS on 8/18

On August 18th, Code Red DVD will unleash THE STRANGENESS! It is 1980 and the price of gold is soaring. Old timers warn would be prospectors to stay away from the Gold Spike Mine. It has stood as a ghastly reminder of the horrors of a century before when the earth violently shook and over twenty miners were killed, their bodies stripped of flesh. The residents of Basin City talked of the grisly murders only in whispers from which legends of The Strangeness grew. A small group of explorers innocently make their way to the Gold Spike. Only one knows the incredible secret of the mine, and here the nightmare begins.....!

NIGHTMARE USA's Stephen Thrower described the film as having, "Ominous atmosphere, flashes of humour, and a truly startling monster!"

Shot in 16mm, Code Red presents the film in 16x9 widescreen (as requested by the director) from a HiDef master. Extras include 6 short films from Chris Huntley and Mark Sawicki; audio commentary from Sawicki, Huntley, and the director; on camera interviews with all three; and an extensive still gallery. MSRP is $22.98.

BRUTE CORPS

Dir: Jerry Jameson

1972 USA / Color, 35mm / 87min.

"Any thing they want... they take!"

A group of traveling mercenaries set stakes in a small Mexican border town where they start up a training camp. These are some seriously bad dudes (as one unlucky biker gang finds out). The mercs come across a young hippie couple on their way to nowhere in particular. After spending some time with them one of the soldiers starts to take a liking to pretty young girl. When he makes his less than good intentions known, the other soldiers get jealous and are soon locked in vicious contest to see who gets to force himself on the unwilling captive. And it just gets weirder from there! An incredibly rare and rarely seen gem of early 70's trash cinema. NEVER RELEASED ON VIDEO!

Mark Sawicki supervises and brings his "monster" for one of our upcoming titles!

Mark Sawicki, a well-established spfx expert in Hollywood, was kind enough to come in and help us supervise a telecine of a cult monster film he did many years ago, and he even brought the monster with him! We found the only surviving 16mm elements of this 1980 monster film (it was shot in 16mm) and we did a new 16x9 widescreen 1:78 transfer (as requested by the director) mastered in Hi-Def! We will be doing an audio commentary with Mark, Chris Huntley, and the elusive director coming soon. We will also include 6 short films they have done in USC. This is a rare, cool 80's monster flick you should definitely check out. Don't be afraid. It's only a movie. We are shooting for a August 18th street date.

Actor John Considine gives Code Red an on camera interview/audio commentary

Veteran actor John Considine was kind enough to grant us not only an on camera interview, but an audio commentary for one of our upcoming titles! The lively commentary track was moderated by HOSTEL producer Scott Spiegel. We acquired the original elements from the vaults of MGM and did a brand new master in Hi Definition from the original camera negatives! It is a very macabre 70's horror film which now looks even more funky in HiDef. We should be scheduling this title for Halloween of this year, as all extras are completed, including an interview with the late directors son. Stay tuned!

Here are some shots of John in HiDef!

RIP Peter Shepard

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Shepard whom we last spoke to on the phone on 2/09. He wanted to participate on THE VISITOR DVD once he came back to L.A. from France in May. He had been gracious enough to give us an audio commentary for CHOKE CANYON, and we hope you enjoy the many stories he had about Paola Pasolini, as well as working on 1900, THE VISITOR, PIRANHA 2, and TENTACLES. We would like to pay tribute to him and hope you enjoy his audio commentary for CHOKE CANYON, scheduled for a July release.

CODE RED HAS A ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE‏

CODE RED recorded an audio commentary & filmed on-camera interviews with John Fasano and Frank Dietz for our upcoming release of ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE, the movie that started the Thor/Fasano craze that is sweeping horror fandom. Thor could not attend the commentary in person, but he joined us via telephone and his comments were recorded at his Canadian studio, making this a joint discussion track for Thor/Fasano/Dietz. The commentary, moderated by THE JITTERS writer Jeff McKay, will be fun and informative to all the horror fans out there who loved or hated the film. NIGHT OF THE DRIBBLER makes its world debut via Code Red‏!

NIGHT OF THE DRIBBLER, a comedy slasher shot in 1995, but never released anywhere in the world, will make its world debut via CODE RED DVD this summer! Some psycho wearing a basketball mask is killing off the High School basketball team and it's up to the famous TV Funnyman Fred Travelena to find the killer! In the vein of Peter Sellers films, Fred plays 3 roles in the movie! Canadian TV's COLD SQUAD Gregory Calpakis also stars in this demented comedy horror film that has been lost for many years! Directed and produced by the fine folks who brought you SNUFF, THE CARPENTER, and the cult classic ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE! We hope you all will enjoy this lost classic!
