Casey Scott is a real creep, isn't he? Always sticking knives in his friends' backs and trash-talking people he used to work with. No wonder he doesn't get too many gigs working on dvd's. Doesn't pay to bite the hand that feeds you...
Real big of you to post ANONYMOUSLY! Just because I have an opinion and speak it doesn't mean I'm a creep, it means I'm honest. I've supported Code Red over the BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD debacle, and have given two positive reviews for SOLE SURVIVOR and CAN I DO IT, so your agenda (and identity) is quite clear. You give me way too much credit; if I was some sort of devious mastermind, I'd be applying it in better places.
I thought the review was a bit harsh, as well. Mainly, though, I found semantic issues:
First, we're not even in June. The year ain't even half over with.
Second, it seems a stretch--considering all of the bargain-basement, shoddily transferred garbage unleashed monthly--that Boardinghouse represents the worst RELEASE of the year. Using the word 'release', to me, means the whole bundle: the film, its transfer, the extras, the packaging, etc., etc.. I could probably find a good number of releases far crappier than Boardinghouse. Probably...
Now, this doesn't mean I'm picking on Casey because he didn't like the movie. Boardinghouse could very well be the worst MOVIE released this year. From the reviews, it seems that Boardinghouse is barely passable as a film; like Black Devil Doll from Hell, it looks like something one sits through just to know what it is like. But, since I could probably sit through BDDfH again, Boardinghouse is likely to be just a bump in the road as far as viewing experiences go.
As for anon's gripes, maybe he or she didn't read the other two POSITIVE reviews of Code Red releases from Mr. Scott. I wasn't aware that Dvd Drive-In had to act as a shill for certain DVD companies. At least Casey's honest enough to put his name on his opinions. (he says, posting anonymously)
Oh-the-horror.com also reviewed Sole Survivor last May, and the reviewer loved it, giving it a 'Buy it!'. As do I. It's one of my favorite unknown horror gems. Thanks CR.
