New Cover for NIGHT OF THE DEMON

Several people said the original looked bad, so we got a better picture of Maria as well as the bigfoot. Enjoy!

It still sucks.

I cannot express in words how excited I am for this release!

Looking good! Many people have been wondering if these releases will have reversible covers with Maria not on the other side. Any confirmation on this yet? I look forward to picking up all these titles! Keep up the great work!

Who is this woman? Is this an American thing outsiders won't understand, because I'm not! Hope the covers will be reversible.

I like this one better.

It's hard to say how disappointed I am. So many years of waiting to see the dvd release of this cult classic and you had to ruin the cover artwork. Instead of getting original german/american/uk cover you had to make your own which sadly looks like a worst crap ever and for God's sake, some wrestling woman on the front side of cover. I'm sure many horror fans won't forgive you such a disgrace. Why you had to put this bimbo on the cover is beyond me. I was buying all Code Red releases but because of what you did this time I won't ever buy this release. Gladly Germans took care about the fans of the movie and released it how it should look, with a classic cover without any ugly girls on it.
Suche a shame on you Code Red.

when it comes to a dvd cover, what do you expect from a bigfoot-gone-postal film which most motherfuckers out there never seen or heard of? Let them have some fun with the cover art for crying out loud...
its a bad movie(despite its bloody merits) so its befitting to be treated like a smelly hunk of cheese.
Image has used some atrocious cover art when putting out there Redemption series... and i was happy the films were all uncut.

get a fucking life, and choose your battles....

For me, it's the film inside the case that counts, as I couldn't care any less about cover art. Of it's great, that's wonderful, if not, not a big loss. If anything, I'm more partial to the spine, as that is what I see on my shelf. Hopefully sex appeal, and celebrity recognition, will entice people not normally hip to Code Red releases, to buy these right up. Personally, I think it's a great idea. Bill, please keep up the outstanding work.

Even though I am not a total fan of Maria in the corner, this new cover is a positive improvement. A definite buy for me.

Now bring on Attack of the Beast Creatures!!

It's a superb 'guilty pleasure' sort of film and I'll buy it [details plaease about the print aspect/extras] BUT I really do hope the Scorpion-copycat thing does extend to the same reversable inlays.

I know, 'moan'... BUT I'll point this out... Code Red would not DARE have done 'this' to the cover of Scavolini's NIGHTMARE - for the same reasons as we're mostly not liking it now.

Anonymous said...

i am going to buy it regardless. go ahead and buy the german/ austria hartbox release. When you try to watch it in English the music is non existent, the sound is completely messed up. In German its fine but useless to watch it in.

This is a popular marketing strategy since scorpion Releasing are using the same thing with their Katarina presents. the movies feature a pic. of katarina on the cover, though their covers are reported to be reversable. TNA star, Katarina Leigh Waters also introduces each film. More on the series on Dvddrive-in.com. I say bring it on. i love Code Red & will always buy their dvd's as long as the content interests me. In 20+ years we'll all be complaining & searching ebay for these relics & thinking about the old Thriller video releases with Elvira on the cover. I'm just happy to have more than 2 great dvd company's still releasing great films. Now please release Attack of the Beast Creatures like someone else wrote & by all means release THE AMAZING MR. NO LEGS!

Great job as usual! Forget the retarded complainer(s). If they have a legitimate complaint, fine. Not buying because of a hostess? Retarded.
Love your work! And the cover looks great!
Thanks for treating this fan right!

That's a bad cover. If you must persist in using it, how about a reversible cover with just the moon image, as used on the old UK Iver VHS release?
Shame there's no Blu-Ray release. I rarely touch DVd nowadays, and NOTD is something I've been waiting for for so long.

Anonymous said...

Haha Yes obviously if I hate the Code Red cover on their blog I'm retarded. Fine I don't care about you little retards. But I do care about NOTD and Code Red releases. For any dvd collector cover art is priority. Sure movie is most important but then we have other releases of this one. And dear anonymous. I already bought German hartbox release and I'm very happy with it. Also have original vhs. Won't ever buy this release and I'm not alone. Know more than 50 collectors who won't touch it for the same reason. Code Red is my fave distributor but what you guys did with this series ij just unacceptable. If you will see how much money you lost putting some ugly chick on the front cover I hope you will change your marketing ideas and there will be no more Maria or whatever her name is, on your covers. Just look on the beautiful old style cover of Mardi Grass Massacre and picture of this chick in the corner. It ruins whole image.

50 people? Dude, you are so full of shit.
Fine, don't buy it. We'll enjoy the cleaned up widescreen print while you pretend to be above us with your bargain bin crass releases.

Anonymous said...

Someone not buying because of cover art? What a nerd!

Lyhue W said...

Did that guy say he knows 50 collectors who will pass on NOTD because of this cover? ....
Who even knows 50 other people who have the same genre tastes as we do? Its highly doubtful and clearly a line of shit.
Thank You Code Red!
Future suggestions if possible...

a region 1 print of ...
La Casa 3 (Ghosthouse)
Spookies
Il Nido Del Ragno(Spider Labyrinth)

Im sure some of those are stuck in some sort of copyright hell, but I think they would sell copies.

Explosive Action said...

Spider Labyrinth definitely needs a release on DVD. The Japanese VHS is great as its widescreen.

I'm just excited it's getting an official release! Code Red rocks! Loved the "Rituals" DVD - awesome flick! Keep it coming guys!

Yeah, I gotta agree. What are the odds that someone would have 50 friends that, like himself, were not anatomically correct.

I'm looking forward to several of your releases. It's too bad that every time I check out this blog to see what's upcoming, there seem to be so many people who only have negative things to say.

Code Red is a great and admirable enterprise run by individuals who clearly have respect and affection for the movies they release. Fans should be grateful to Code Red simply for making these obscure films available in classy editions with extra features rather than letting them languish in out-of-print or fullscreen VHS transfer oblivion.

Does having a babe on the cover of a movie - and she is a babe for those of you who are apparently incapable of recognizing that fact - make the movie any less entertaining? Sure, having origianl poster art on a cover is an added bonus, but if it's not there, so what? Lighten up, guys.

Brandon said...

WOW I post on your board because I buy your movies and offer my free services and you can't even post my comment. Thanks.

I'm an American and I never heard of that woman. There's NO reason to put her on the cover because doing so won't increase sales by even one copy. There's not even a reason for her to be a "hostess." Horror film fans are collectors and will buy these films regardless. Does Code Red think that adding her will ramp up sales? Then what's the point? It's a poor attempt to cash in on an Elvira fad that should have died 20 years ago.

i don't understand how anyone could be happy with the german release of night of the demon, i mean the sound is completely fucked. I'm not talking about muffling soundtrack or something its barley audible and all the sound is hard to hear. unless they reissued it and fixed it then i would be very interested in rebuying or replacing it.

"Horror film fans are collectors and will buy these films regardless."

But that's the point - they haven't been buying. From what I've been reading, Rituals hasn't hit 1000, and most of the other titles released this year have done much, much worse.

So is it worth trying something different and seeing if wrestling fans buy some DVDs they otherwise wouldn't? Code Red (and Scorpion) have obviously decided to give it a try. Frankly, their sales can't get much worse, which is why the cries of "I won't buy this! And neither will my 50 friends!" are so laughable. There are a LOT of horror fans who ALREADY haven't been buying.

Not only does this series make Code Red look extremely desperate, but it shows what they think about their potential customers...."throw some tits at 'em and those fanboys will buy anything."
Have some confidence in your product and give these films the integrity they deserve, doing this really cheapens your releases.
Having to dress up the cover artwork with T&A makes me think that the DVD isn't good enough to stand on it's own. That is always my first impression seeing something like this on the shelf.

After making angry, tearful love to my tube-sock (I call her Fiona.) there is nothing more I like to do that sign-on to the Internets and go to the Code Red blog and complain about DVD cover art. Sure some people might think that a DVD cover is unimportant, and that anyone that would worry about such thing is most likely a drooling neckbeard who lives with in his mom's basement -- but those people most likely do not have a jizz encrusted sock for a girlfriend like me.

CODE RED FIX THIS OUTRAGE!!1!!!! THIS DVD COVER CANNOT BE LEFT TO STAND!!!1!

I'm really looking forward to this one. The Austrian DVD by Retrofilm messed up the English track (which used the dialogue track only, which was devoid of music or sound effects).

Hope you've managed to find a trailer for this release

I think having this chick on the cover is a big mistake. I will buy the DVD regardless because I'm a fan of the film but I think you owe it to us to produce a decent cover. The film itself is the most important part of a release but the cover doesn't fall far behind. Please at least make it reversable without Maria on the other side.

If you put Julie Strain on the cover with her nipples exposed, I will buy every single release...twice.

The cover is sacrilege for sure! This is Night of the Demon we’re talking about here, for crying out loud! We all know and love the movie and this cheap cover really is a blasphemous atrocity. Hey, Vipco’s UK VHS cover from the 80s is crap but it’s far superior to this. Will this wrestling gal be popping up at points throughout the movie making wisecracks and comedy one-liners and shaking her tits for the lads? Has she ever watched the movie?

I suggest Code Red have a competition so fans can design a cover and the winner gets a free copy of the dvd.

Anonymous said...

If "Martin" had a girlfriend, he wouldn't need a picture of a half naked on his dvd covers.

Anonymous said...

Honestly I hope it's a reversible cover. If not that's fine, as long as there is a feature to watch the film without her. I can easily just cut up the cover and replace it with a quality poster or something. I've done it many times when the cover arts were awful. Ironically when Torso was first released on DVD I put the hacksaw poster as the replacement then on the re-issue of the DVD BAM! Hacksaw cover! Go figure.

Anonymous said...

I appreciate CR for releasing obscure and forgotten classics such as Night of the Demon. Unfortunately, the cover art looks cheap, amateurish and unprofessional. Pasting that bimbo on the front is a be decision and I'm sure many other collectors feel the same way.

Anonymous said...

Wow. A woman on the front of a DVD cover. Yet, nerds complain. Sex sells. I could care less, as long as the movie isn't interupted midway or similar, by a host or hostess. It makes me wonder if all these complainers prefer the cock. Must be something!

as far as i'm concerned there can never be enough Maria- i wish she was on EVERY code red cover
