Street Date changes‏

We have changed the streetdates for some of our announced titles. TRAPPED will now come out on 8/4, and THE WEEKEND MURDERS will be released on 8/11. CHOKE CANYON has been postponed due to poor pre-book, and NIGHT OF THE DRIBBLER has been pushed back to later this year, as has POWER PLAY.

I knew about Weekend Murders. Am SHOCKED by Trapped coming in August...but I suppose this is the fault of Navarre and not Code Red.

We will NEVER see night of the dribbler.

Look at it this way Anonymous 1:22-

We'll definitely receive it eventually. Since nobody else will release it CR is our only hope.

OR:

There must be some reason it was never released to begin with, so be thankful you'll never see it.

But I'm still buying it.

Sad news about Choke Canyon...was really looking forward to that one after reading the synopsis a few weeks back.

what a surprise. Still no news on Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker either...why do I even bother returning to this site?

I've been coming back to amazon for over a month now, hoping that The Weekend Murders would be up for pre-order. What's with the hold-up?

Word on the street was Code Red had the rights to Brett Piper's "They Bite". Is that true? And if so, when might we see it?

Anonymous said...

I just walked to the market and didn't hear anything about that on my street.

Anonymous said...

My street only talks about hockey and lemons. No Code Red.

What a sad, sad company. They're never coming out because no one gives a shit about Code Red or the crappy movies it digs up.

Code Red's been kicked off of the streets I frequent, too many broken promises and big, empty trash talk got it's ass kicked.

This slate of prospective releases are pretty sad specimens when all is said and done, let's be real about it, folks.

"Choke Canyon" is a bit of a big disappointment, but the company is working hard on releasing titles that normally wouldn't be released.

The DVD market in general is doing poorly, I'm sure Code Red is working on things.

Shut the fuck up you trolls.

These releases are very exciting to a lot of fans, which obviously you guys are not. Weekend Murders and The Strangeness are great little flicks so I think you should bugger off with your hate. It's getting tiring.

Anonymous said...

Some of you you guys are just downright mean. There dvds!! Put your passion somewhere else like say ...finding a job.

Anonymous said...

What does this mean to MESSIAH OF EVIL? Can we expect it this year, or more likely in 2009?

Anonymous said...

Forget about the trolls! These poor guys never got enough attention of anybody in their life, so they trying the web to get at least some kind of response. That's the only way for them to make sure they're feeling not totally ignored by the world.

Anonymous said...

For God's sakes! Will you guys release The Farmer already?!!!!

Anonymous said...

For God's sakes! Will you quit your whining already?

Economy isn't exactly happy-feely at the moment.

On another topic, "Hey Code Red. Have you though about possibly releasing 'Welcome to Arrow Beach'? Meg Foster would love you for it." As would I... :)

I am really proud of Bill Norton for posting all of the comments, under various monikers, in his company's own defense! You've alienated any real fan base by talking big and failing miserably to come through upon MANY releases. Where are they? Where are the "street dates" for all of these?

I assume you just grab for whatever is cheapest out of desperation. THE STRANGENESS is really awful apart from the brief stop motion sequences of the creature and its Lovecraftian design. The pacing and script are so turgid, the characters are those really irritating, hackneyed stereotypes even worse than in Bert I. Gordon's films such as EMPIRE OF THE ANTS.

Of all the (many quite amazing and still unreleased) European horrors/gialli still unavailable, you choose WEEKEND MURDERS, a really awful black comedic "thriller" more akin to an Agatha Christie adaptation such as FIVE DOLLS FOR AN AUGUST MOON (but even worse than that!) than a full-blooded giallo. Truly abysmal. Trust me, people, these releases are hardly worth getting very excited by if you have not seen them before.

Either you just scrape the bottom of the barrel indiscriminately for the cheapest shit you can acquire and fancifully package and hyperbolically and misleadingly promote to bait and sucker the gullible, ignorant consumer with (lack of $$$, sleazy moron opportunism, avarice most likely), or your brain is so damaged, your taste is so appallingly awful, and additionally your knowledge of the TRUE gems still out there unrestored is so limited or non-existent that we are accursed by it in the form of your releases....lol...?

Why don't you ask someone who knows their shit for some help?

Anonymous said...

anonymous 1:06pm - you don't know shit - idiot, so shut the f-up.

if you don't like the titles CR is putting out, don't buy 'em. why are you here babbling on complaining about a company you have no interest in? just leave and go buy the constant re-issues blue underground is putting out or the obscure Japanese crap synapse is focusing on now. ya, all of that is really good shit. ha. buy what you want - don't buy stuff you don't want. it's a very easy plan, doofus. practice a bit and you'll figure it out.

Personally, I love FIVE DOLLS - so what if it isn't a full giallo? jeeezusss! STRANGENESS is pretty dumb, but if you don't like it, don't buy it. what's the big deal? christ. these dumb fan-boy idiot whiners are really pathetic. it's absolutely astonishing.

kudos to Code Red for letting these idiots' comments get published on this blog as I believe blogs can approve/block each comment. if so, Code Red is just showing everyone how dumb these immature ranters truly are.

Ummmm... what about "Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker?" It was supposed to be out last year, then the last update said it was pushed back til April. It's almost July and it's still not available. Is there a new tentative release date -- please?

Anonymous said...

are we ever getting nightmare in a damaged brain bill norton was kind enough to say he finally found someone to do the subtitles but no further info every single new code red dvd has been dleayed which is very scary at this point who is the new publisher since bci navarre went under???

Anonymous said...

Vinnie, as I recall, they're getting (or just got) the Jimmy McNichol interview and will probably release it this fall (or early 2010). Don't take my utmost word for it, but I think that's how it was put.

Anony 1:06 PM, unless Bill Norton can travel to another country in 10 minutes, I can assure you I'm not him. Haha. And what's with you directly attacking the films? Weekend Murders is VERY well received (much more than FIVE DOLLS) and the Strangeness has had a little fanbase from time to time. So I don't know where the 'facts' are coming from. Perhaps someone is on the bitter side?

Anyways, the point of Code Red is to get us films (usually in widescreen and cleaned up print) that have long been lost to the video format. If you recall, VHS has many cut versions of films and the print in comparison to today is very bad. They're doing a just service.

Vinnie Rattolle said...

Thanks for the reply, anonymous. I thought they'd gotten the Jimmy McNichol interview a while ago, but I probably misunderstood something I read. If anyone from Code Red is reading this, a new tentative release date would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with others that the delays are annoying, but I'd personally rather wait an additional year for a good release filled with extras than the bare-bones, poorly remastered releases that the big studios seem to endlessly churn out... Though what's up with some of last year's releases being out of print already (The Dead Pit, Final Exam, etc.)?

Anonymous said...

Well, in response to Final Exam, that was released by BCI, not Code Red. And sadly, BCI is going...uh...'dead'. Sad, but true. So that's the reason it's going outta here.

The Dead Pit however is a surprise to me. It could be because they ran out of supply, because that was CR's best selling title. But I ordered it 3 months ago with no problem, so I'm very shocked to hear this.

Anonymous said...

Where the hell is Messiah of Evil? Please give us an update on it's release!

Anonymous said...

Please give us an update on "The Farmer".

Anonymous said...

Hey Anonymous June 22, 2009 9:12 AM

I'm not whining. In case you haven't noticed, many people were looking forward to the release of The Farmer, a film that hasn't been seen anywhere for over 25 years +. While I commend Code Red for releasing obscure films on DVD, they have a practice of seriously hyping up their acquisitions only to leave classic movie fans high and dry. As for your silly excuse about the economy, so what? The ECONOMY shouldn't prevent CR from keeping their customers (their lifeblood) informed about their aborted releases.

Re: Night of the Dribbler

Fred Trevalena has died, sad news and even sadder that he diddnt get to see the release of this movie after being good enough to provide commentry for the DVD/

Code red: Please revert back to the original set plan to release this movie in July as a homage to Fred!

Anonymous said...

I want to see DRIBBLER as well, but come on - the original streetdate was 7-14 (I think) so he would have died before that anyway. He died at the end of June. Very sad all around, of course.

I hope Code Red still puts the film out eventually just because I want to see it (and it would be fitting to honor Fred's name).

The movie may stink, but a basketball-headed maniac movie has to be fun to some degree - no? And I hope the commentary track with Travalena gets out there as it's now even more of interest (as we know, death sells - how pathetic we are).
